Program Overview


Master of High Performance Sport

The Master of High Performance Sport is a coursework program designed to equip graduates with the skills and ability to provide evidence-based sports science services to key stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, teams, and sporting organisations.


Overview

Sports Scientists are university-qualified professionals who work with individual athletes or teams to reach their peak performance. Murdoch graduates from this course will possess the skills and ability to provide evidence-based sports science services to key stakeholders in a range of contexts.


Admission Requirements

  • Entry requirements: A recognised Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent in a cognate area with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be eligible to apply for AES accreditation with ESSA.
  • English language requirements: Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 7.0.
  • International availability clarification: Not available to International students

Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically evaluate and apply advanced sports science and strength and conditioning principles while integrating coaching science, to enhance athlete health and performance.
  2. Design, conduct, and interpret advanced testing and monitoring protocols appropriate for high-performance sports settings to inform evidence-based decision-making with diverse athletic populations.
  3. Design rigorous research methodologies and apply appropriate data analysis techniques to evaluate sports science interventions in professional and academic contexts.
  4. Design and undertake sports science research, including data analysis and critical evaluation, and be able to communicate the practical application of findings to a range of stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrate professional competence in sports science delivery, integrating effective communication skills and reflective practice with athletes, coaches, and multidisciplinary teams.
  6. Exhibit a commitment to professional sports science standards by upholding legal, cultural, and ethical responsibilities in practice.

  • EXS511: Testing and Monitoring in High Performance Sport (3 cp)
  • EXS512: Advanced Topics in Sports Science (3 cp)

  • EXS613: Sports Science Practicum (9 cp)
  • EXS690: Thesis in Sports Science (15 cp)
