MJ-CRIB - Criminal Behaviour
Overview
Criminal behaviour is a major that focuses on the issue of criminal behaviour in a broader way than the other majors. It is about four primary elements the development of criminal behaviour, the maintenance of criminal behaviour, the prevention of criminal behaviour, and our responses to criminal behaviour.
Structure
The major consists of 24 credit points, including:
- LEG100: Law, Justice and Social Policy (3 cp)
- CRM100: Introduction to Criminology (3 cp)
- CRM120: Criminological Research Methods (3 cp)
- CRM202: Corrections (3 cp)
- CRM203: Criminal Behaviour (3 cp)
- CRM302: Children and Crime (3 cp)
- CRM389: Psychology and Law (3 cp)
- CRM204: Forms of Violence (3 cp)
Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements (Onshore)
As per normal undergraduate admission requirements for the Bachelor of Criminology.
Entry Requirements (Transnational)
As per normal undergraduate admission requirements for the Bachelor of Criminology.
English Language Requirements
Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Learning Outcomes
- Critique the social, psychological, and structural influences in the development of criminal behaviour.
- Evaluate evidence impacting on the maintenance of criminal behaviour and the appropriateness of CJS responses to crime.
- Use theoretical and applied crime prevention methods to produce policy recommendations.
- Produce evidence-based reports for a variety of stakeholder audiences.
- Describe the evidence-based decision model and/or professional confidentiality.
Professional Outcomes
A combined degree Bachelor of Criminology/ BA (Psychology) will be of special interest not only to those desiring to enter the psychology profession but also students envisaging a career as a criminologist or who wish to work in a field associated with criminal justice. This major is not compatible with MN-CRMPSY.
