Overview
The Finance major covers a broad range of areas in corporate finance, treasury management, investment analysis, and international finance. These areas are designed to equip students with the necessary skills to obtain employment in areas such as stockbroking, insurance, and banking, as well as prepare them for careers in finance in public and private sector organizations.
Many issues relevant to the corporate financial manager will be examined, including capital investment decisions, cost of capital, sources of funds, dividend policy, working capital management, efficient capital markets, portfolio management, the use of options, futures, forward exchange contracts, and other derivative financial instruments. Students will also receive an introduction to international finance. A fourth year of study is available in the form of an honours year.

The Finance major consists of 24 credit points, including:

- BUS288: Treasury Management (3 cp)
- BUS329: Investment Analysis (3 cp)

Admission Requirements

As per normal undergraduate admission requirements.
English Language Requirements
Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Additional Progression Requirements/Restrictions
Students enrolled in the LLB programme as part of the combined award with the Bachelor of Business (Finance) must enrol in BSL201 Finance Law (or equivalent unit in the Business Law suite of units) to complete the Finance major.

Professional Recognition
Graduates are potentially eligible for associate membership of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
Other Information
Murdoch Business graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to obtain employment in areas such as stockbroking, insurance, and banking. They will also acquire skills for careers in finance in public and private sector organizations.
