MJ-POLI - Politics and International Studies
Overview
The Politics and International Studies major is for students who want to actively participate in shaping the local and global forces that affect political institutions and the policies they produce. This major will enable students to take up effective roles in local, state, national and international political institutions by developing their deep understanding of how local and global forces affect political institutions, and encouraging them to apply their knowledge to real-world political and policy issues.

Admission Requirements
- Special Requirements: There may be a reduction in choice of units if completing this course in the external mode.
- Entry Requirements (Onshore): As per normal undergraduate admission requirements.
- English Language Requirements: Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain how politics, power and persuasion influence critical issues such as leadership, resource allocation, struggle and conflict, news and social media, and environmental and human security.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge, apply a range of conceptual approaches, and practice appropriate research methods in the study of politics, policy-making and/or international relations.
- Evaluate competing sources of knowledge and analyse complex issues in order to propose solutions to complex political and policy issues.
- Effectively communicate persuasive, sustained and evidence-based arguments with respect to the local and global forces that affect political institutions and the policies they produce.
- Design and manage projects of increasing sophistication, involving ethical inquiry, and working independently and with others.
- Demonstrate the capacity to think across cultures and contexts when considering complex issues in global politics and public policy-making.
- Develop interpersonal, ethical, research, analytical, problem-solving and other skills that are valued in government, military, security, trade, education, law, industry, media, marketing and other professional contexts.
