Overview
The aim of this unit is to examine different agricultural practices in varying host locations and to place them in context with systems used in Western Australia and/or Australia as a whole.

Students will need to undertake an application interview before enrolment in this unit.
Learning Outcomes
- Examine and describe varying agricultural farming systems in the host location in the context of sustainable land, food and fibre production.
- Compare and communicate differences in agricultural systems (sustainable land, food and fibre production) between the host location and Western Australia and/or Australia as a whole.
- Acquire and explain knowledge of sustainable agricultural and livestock supply chains.
- Communicate effectively on the agricultural practices of the local region to a range of stakeholder audiences.
- Establish local and/or international contacts and relationships and demonstrate an understanding of the social, cultural and/or local community.
Unit Content
The unit covers topics including:
- Livestock production
- Animal husbandry
- Intensive and extensive systems
- Livestock processing
- Food processing and grading systems
- Agricultural innovative technologies Participants will engage with academics, local students, farmers, and agricultural engineers to gain a deep understanding of agricultural practices and food production systems.

Assessment and Activities
Students will prepare and deliver a short oral or poster presentation and/or lead a discussion covering an agricultural or cultural topic, as well as keeping a summary diary of the visits, followed by a final report. Activities pre- and post-tour are not timetabled. Students will be informed accordingly when these activities occur.
