Program Overview
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a professional preparation program for teaching Science in secondary schools, as defined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to seek registration from the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) and from other accrediting bodies across Australia.
Program Structure
- The program consists of 48 credit points.
- Minor: 6 credit points
- Required Units: 6 credit points
- EDN5953: Teaching Science Years 7-10
- EDN6953: Teaching Science Years 11-12
Admission Requirements
Enrolment is subject to restriction due to professional recognition requirements. Prospective teachers are required to be literate and numerate individuals who are able to meet the Australian Standards for entry into teacher education. A prospective teacher is also required to be a physically, emotionally, and socially able individual who can handle the rigours of school and classroom life.
Special Requirements
Enrolment in the M1284 Master of Teaching (Secondary) or M1391 Master of Teaching (Secondary) is required.
Learning Outcomes
- Design lessons, resources, and enact teaching appropriate to Science from the School and Curriculum Standards Authority (WA).
- Apply knowledge of assessment and reporting strategies, relevant to the Science learning area.
- Engage professionally with colleagues, teachers, parents/carers, and the community to assist in planning and implementing effective teaching and learning in the Science context.
Professional Outcomes
On completion of the Master of Teaching (Secondary), students have a widely accepted qualification from a recognised university and are eligible to apply for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of WA (or other appropriate state-based registration boards).
