Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the nature of tourism destinations with reference to principles and underpinning theories relevant to sustainable tourism development.
- Identify the demands of contemporary tourism on host destinations, including economic, social-cultural, community, and environmental impacts.
- Examine the role of sustainable development and strategic destination management for balancing tourism demand, community stakeholders, and destination development planning needs.
- Conduct academic and industry-based research to recommend appropriate sustainable tourism development initiatives for the host destination and its stakeholders.
- Build a professional consultative team with project management skills to work collaboratively and effectively as a team.
- Produce a sustainable tourism development plan for the host destination stakeholder(s) that reflects their needs and expectations, and its deliverability.
- Demonstrate successful cross-cultural communications skills and develop working relationships with local communities and stakeholders in a culturally appropriate manner.
