Program Overview
University Program Information
The University of Alaska offers a range of programs through its College of Liberal Arts. Department of Art
The Department of Art offers several areas of study, including:

Summer Visual Art Academy
The Summer Visual Art Academy is an intensive visual arts program for students from grades 612. The program offers various courses, including:
- Cartooning: Sequential drawing and character design for animation and visual storytelling.
- Ceramics: Hand-thrown and hand-built clay artworks and pottery.
- Craft of Sewing: Sewing basics and beyond, with an introduction to fashion and design.
- Digital Design: An interdisciplinary Makerspace using digital tools for virtual reality, 3D printing, laser engraving, and design.
- Drawing and Design: Fundamental techniques of drawing and design using traditional and new materials.
- Metalsmithing: Using metalsmithing techniques to create objects and jewelry in copper, brass, and silver.
- Painting/Mixed Media: Traditional and contemporary painting techniques, with a focus on composition studies and mixed media projects.
- Photography: Foundations of photography using cell phone cameras.
- Printmaking: Relief and other works using traditional printing presses.
Registration and Tuition
Registration for the Summer Visual Art Academy opens in March, with options for full-day and half-day sessions. The tuition fees are as follows:
- Full-Day: $650, with four classes per day, 105 minutes per class, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Half-Day AM: $375, with two morning classes per day, 105 minutes per class, from 8:30 am to 12:10 pm.
- Half-Day PM: $375, with two afternoon classes per day, 105 minutes per class, from 12:50 pm to 4:30 pm.
