Introduction to the Mining and Petroleum Training Service
The University of Alaska established the Mining and Petroleum Training Service (MAPTS) in 1979 to deliver training, development, and consulting services to the resource industries of Alaska. Since its inception, MAPTS has trained over 100,000 individuals and has offices in Soldotna and Anchorage, serving the entire state.
Program Overview
MAPTS has conducted resource industry training and worker certification for 45 years. The current focus areas include:
- IADC WellSharp Certification
- Mine Safety and Health Training, parts 46 & 48
- Hard skills training for underground and surface mine operations
In addition to these focus areas, MAPTS provides customized employment training for a variety of employers and agencies in the resource industries, as well as professional training, development, and consulting services.

Instructors and Mission
MAPTS instructors each have decades of experience working in their field of expertise. The organization's mission is to provide timely and professional training to individuals in the resource industries, business, and government, with the purpose of putting Alaskans to work in Alaska jobs.
Program Structure
MAPTS is a statewide program under the umbrella of the Community & Technical College at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF).
