Program Overview
The Underground Mine Training program is a six-week course that prepares participants for the first stages of a career as a new underground production miner. This remote onsite course is 280 hours long and covers essential skills and knowledge for working in an underground mine setting.
Program Objectives
The program aims to teach participants how to:
- Work at a remote site location
- Understand the unique challenges and requirements of remote site work
- Work safely underground
- Learn safety protocols and procedures for underground mining
- Understand the language of the underground
- Familiarize themselves with industry-specific terminology and communication methods
- "Read the ground", bar down and bolt
- Develop skills in geological interpretation and support systems
- Operate a jackleg drill
- Learn the safe and effective operation of drilling equipment
- Understand the mining cycle
- Study the processes and stages involved in underground mining
- Operate an underground loader and mucker
- Gain hands-on experience with loading and hauling equipment
- Hang pipe and underground utilities
- Learn how to install and maintain underground infrastructure
