Introduction to the Marxist Theory Program

The Marxist Theory program is a comprehensive academic discipline that researches Marxist theory and its scientific system as a whole. This program includes six secondary disciplines: Marxist basic principles, Marxist development history, Marxist Chinaization research, foreign Marxist research, ideological and political education, and basic issues research on modern and contemporary Chinese history.

Program Overview

The Marxist Theory program at the university's School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 2006, with the right to grant master's degrees in Marxist Chinaization and ideological and political education. In 2011, the program obtained the right to grant master's degrees in Marxist theory and established the Marxist Academy. The faculty consists of 11 professors, 15 associate professors, 1 lecturer, and 13 doctoral degree holders. Over the past five years, the program has undertaken and participated in more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, published over 110 papers, and compiled more than 10 monographs.

Program Objectives

The program aims to cultivate students with a firm Marxist faith and socialist ideals, who are morally, intellectually, and physically well-developed. Students should possess a good foundation in Marxist theory, a solid understanding of professional basics, and a broad knowledge base. They should be able to analyze and solve problems using Marxist perspectives and methods.

• Chinaization of Marxism and contemporary China
• Ideological and political work theory and practice
• Basic issues research on modern and contemporary Chinese history

Research Areas

1. Marxist Basic Principles and Practical Applications: This area includes research on Marxist production theory and practice, Marxist science and technology, Marxist values and beliefs, and human comprehensive development.
2. Chinaization of Marxism and Contemporary China: This area deepens the understanding of Marxist Chinaization theory and practice. It includes research on Marxist social development theory and development views, socialist market order theory and application, and socialist cultural construction.
3. Ideological and Political Work Theory and Practice: This area is guided by Marxist theory and based on the party's ideological and political work practice. It includes research on new-era university ideological and political education theory and methods, university ideological and political education and management, and moral construction theory and practice.
4. Basic Issues Research on Modern and Contemporary Chinese History: This area systematically studies the historical process and basic laws of modern and contemporary China, focusing on how China chose Marxism, the Communist Party, and the socialist path.

Program Structure

Academic System and Credits

• The academic system for full-time master's students is 3 years, with a study period of 2-4 years.
• The total credit requirement is not less than 36 credits, with degree courses not less than 21 credits.
• Course learning should be completed in the first academic year.

Graduation Requirements

Students who apply for early graduation must submit a written application one year in advance, signed by their supervisor and the college. They must complete the required course credits, apply for an early opening report, and have their supervisor review and approve the report. At the time of the dissertation defense, students must have published at least one paper as the first author (or with their supervisor as the first author and themselves as the second author) in a CSSCI-indexed journal. Each student can only apply for early graduation once during their study period.
