Introduction to the University Program

The Saint Petersburg State University welcomes foreign students to its preparatory department. Since 2018, the university has been helping foreign applicants prepare for undergraduate and graduate degree programs taught in Russian. The program provides students with the best education and valuable experience through communication with leading professors.

Preparatory Department for Foreign Students

The preparatory department is the correct step for foreign students to receive high-quality training before entering the university. The program details are as follows:

• Course duration: 10 months
• Total academic hours: 1,152 hours
• Form of study: full-time or remote
• Academic calendar: from September to June of the next year (two semesters)
• Tuition fee: 272,000 rubles per academic year

Fields of Study

The university offers preparatory courses in the following fields:

• Natural Sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry
• Engineering Sciences/Technological Sciences: mathematics, physics, computer science

Curriculum

The first semester is dedicated to studying the Russian language. Assessment tests are conducted after mastering each part of the course. After the New Year holidays (from December 31 to January 11), students are divided into small groups according to their chosen field of study. In addition to Russian language courses, foreign students have a "professional language introduction course" that teaches basic terminology and academic language structures for three professional courses.

The second semester includes professional courses for students' chosen fields (one course per week, 4 academic hours). At the end of the preparatory course, students take a final exam in Russian and core subjects and have the opportunity to take the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL-I level) for free. This exam gives the highest score for entering the university's foundation programs. Foreign applicants must have a certificate of Russian language proficiency (level 1) to enter the university.

Registration

The deadline for submitting documents for self-funded students is from January 15 to August 28 (for full-time and remote students).
