Program Overview

The Cancer Treatment Expert Radiation Technologist Training Course is designed for diagnostic radiological technologists who have been involved in radiation therapy for 10 years or less. The program aims to cultivate expert medical staff in radiation therapy under the guidance of radiation oncologists and quality control specialists.


Program Objectives

The primary objectives of this course are to:


  • Acquire knowledge of clinical medicine and radiation physics necessary for radiation therapy
  • Learn methods for precision control in radiation therapy
  • Understand the overview of treatment planning for internal and external radiation therapy
  • Acquire methods for managing radiation sources
  • Gain foundational knowledge necessary for Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

  • The structure and characteristics of linear accelerators
  • Basic and therapeutic approaches for head and neck tumors
  • Basic and therapeutic approaches for thoracic and breast tumors
  • Basic and therapeutic approaches for pelvic tumors
  • Basic and therapeutic approaches for other tumors
  • Chemotherapy and radiation therapy
  • Pathology

Practical Training

Practical training sessions include:


  • Actual treatment operations (on-site training)
  • Quality control practices (on-site training)
  • Treatment planning exercises (on-site training)
  • Internal radiation therapy and its planning (on-site training)
  • Prostate permanent implant therapy practices (on-site training)
  • Trunk stereotactic body radiation therapy practices (on-site training)
  • Trunk stereotactic body radiation therapy (at other facilities)
  • Observation of chemotherapy rooms
  • Observation of pathology departments
  • Observation of tumor outpatient clinics
  • Particle therapy (at the Particle Therapy Center)
  • Actual IMRT practices (at other facilities)
