Program Overview


Introduction to the Arborist Certification Program

The Arborist Certification Program is a professional certification offered by the Japanese Greenery Center. To become certified, individuals must complete the Arborist Training Program and pass a selection exam. The eligibility criteria for the exam include having at least 7 years of work experience in a related field, such as landscaping, or 1 year of work experience after obtaining the Arborist Assistant certification.


Requirements for Arborist Assistant Certification

To obtain the Arborist Assistant certification, students must complete a minimum of 14 credits from the following lecture courses and at least 4 credits from the experiment/practice courses:


  • Tree classification: Tree Science
  • Tree ecology and physiology: Forest Ecology
  • Soil science: Basic Soil Science
  • Plant pathology: Basic Plant Pathology , Pest Control Microbiology
  • Entomology: Basic Entomology A , Basic Entomology B
  • Arboriculture: Forest Protection Science , Agricultural Chemical Science
  • Landscape architecture: Landscape Architecture
  • Comprehensive arboriculture: Applied Functional Biology Experiment , Arboriculture Comprehensive Exercise

Experiment/Practice Courses

The following experiment/practice courses are required:


  • Tree Science Exercise (held every other year)
  • Applied Plant Science Special Experiment
  • Forest Ecology Exercise
  • International Plant Quarantine Exercise (held every other year)
  • Park and Green Space Environment Exercise

Notes

  • The numbers in parentheses represent the number of credits for each course.
  • The graduation research related to arboriculture can be recognized as an experiment/practice course with the approval of the supervising instructor.
  • Course names and classifications are subject to change, and the latest information can be found on the Japanese Greenery Center's website.

Obtaining the Arborist Assistant Certification

To obtain the Arborist Assistant certification, students must complete the required courses and apply to the Japanese Greenery Center after graduation. The certification is recognized as a graduate school credit. For more information, please contact the Forest Resources Science Laboratory.
