Biodiversity.now A, Spring 2026

This course is an open university program that focuses on biodiversity, its importance, and the ongoing biodiversity crisis. The course consists of five modules and a pre-course part, covering topics such as:

• Biodiversity crises and the concept of biodiversity
• Threats to biodiversity
• Protecting biodiversity
• Topical discussions and questions in the field of biodiversity

Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, students should be able to:

• Recognize reasons for the ongoing biodiversity crisis and its consequences to human society and personal life
• Explore their own connection to nature and diverse values assigned to it
• Recognize various approaches and tools to protect biodiversity, increase biodiversity, and promote sustainable use of biodiversity
• Apply the issues to their own field of studies/work and learn how to be part of the solution

Study Materials and Modes of Study

The course includes online materials, such as videos, audios, reading materials, and exercises. Students can study independently online, and the course requires passing exercises and tests.

Teaching Methods and Time

The course is taught through independent online studying, which includes videos, reading materials, exercises, and tests. The teaching time is irrespective of time, and the course is available online between January 2nd and May 31st, 2026.

Price and Admission

The study units cost 20 / ECTS credit, and the course is worth 2 ECTS credits. The registration is binding, and students can register using the Suomi.fi service.
