Master's Degree Programme in Forestry (Transatlantic Forestry)

The Transatlantic Forestry Master (TRANSFOR-M) is a two-year Master's degree programme leading to a European and a Canadian Master's degree in forestry and environmental management. As a TRANSFOR-M student, you will study modern sustainable forestry and environmental management approaches and gain multicultural perspectives on environmental, economic, and social issues.

• Tuition fee: EU/EEA nationals - no tuition fee; non-EU/EEA nationals - 10,000 /academic year
• Tuition fee waivers available for those whose home university will be UEF

Structure of Studies

• Course work: minimum 90 ECTS
• MSc Thesis: 30 ECTS
• Total: minimum 120 ECTS (minimum 60 ECTS in both institutions)

Not compulsory, but several possibilities available in Joensuu.

Thesis

The Master's thesis at UEF carries 30 ECTS. More information and forms related to thesis work can be found at the School of Forest Sciences Study Community.

Admission Requirements

• Degree requirements: A previous Bachelor's degree corresponding to at least 3 years of full-time academic studies
• Language requirements: Good command of English language, with options for demonstrating proficiency through previous studies or language tests (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency)

• Apply through the desired home university
• Selected by both home and host university
• Meet minimum admission criteria for graduate studies at both universities

Student Selection

• Based on application documents and evaluation of previous studies
• Ranked according to selection criteria
• Best applicants accepted, with possible additional selections to fulfill available study places

Selection Criteria

1. Suitability and content of previous studies: 0-20 points
2. Academic excellence: 0-30 points
3. Prestige and level of home university: 0-5 points
4. Work experience, international experience, and other projects: 0-15 points
5. Applicant's own explanations about motivation to apply: 0-10 points

Tuition Fees and Waivers

• Non-EU/EEA students pay tuition fees to their home university
• EU/EEA students whose home university is UEF do not pay tuition fees to their host university in Canada
• Tuition fee waivers available for non-EU/EEA students, covering 50% of the tuition fee
