Finnish 1B, Spring 2026

Course Description

The course Finnish 1B is designed for individuals who have completed the course Finnish 1A or have corresponding knowledge and skills. The objective of the course is to attain the level A1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Course Contents

• Talking about everyday life, time, and describing current and future events
• Simple interaction situations, such as transactions, shopping, requests, and responding to standard phrases
• Expanding basic language structures, including possessive sentences, negative sentences, imperative sentences, and ko/kö-questions
• Fundamentals of noun declension, including basics of the genitive and partitive cases
• Home, family, and hobbies

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:

• Briefly describe themselves and ask for and provide information in Finnish
• Respond to standard phrases and handle daily recurring situations, partly with the support of an interaction partner
• Understand simple and brief oral and written messages and produce them themselves
• Briefly describe their current and future activities
• Know basic Finnish vocabulary and structures and be familiar with everyday Finnish life

Study Methods

The course will involve active participation in teaching, independent online study, and completing assignments. A final exam will be administered. Students should reserve approximately 54 hours for course work.

Schedules

The course will be organized from January 26 to March 15, 2026, with online teaching on Mondays and Wednesdays at 14-16. Active participation in lectures is necessary to successfully complete the course.
