Course Description
Urheilijan ja liikkujan painonhallinta. Urheilijan painonoptimointi. Eri urheilulajien erityisvaatimukset. Asiakaslähtöinen ravitsemusohjaus. Terveyttä tukeva painopuhe.
Objectives
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Explain what optimal weight management is in different sports
- Identify the risks and benefits of weight optimization in different sports
- Recognize when weight optimization is not justified
- Explain how to implement weight optimization for an athlete
- Create a weight management plan for an athlete
- Justify the importance of interaction and motivation in nutrition counseling for athletes
- Use health-promoting and healthy food relationship-oriented weight language
Implementation
- Online studies in Moodle, including lecture recordings and other materials, as well as assignments that progress according to a specific schedule.
- The course starts with an introductory meeting on March 18, 2026, at 3-4 PM (Teams).
- A feedback session for assignments will be held on May 21, 2026, at 10-11 AM (Teams). Participation in the feedback session is optional.

Assessment
The course is graded on a scale of 0-5, based on the completion of assignments. To pass the course, all assignments must be completed satisfactorily.
Prerequisites
The student must have completed the course "Liikkujan ravitsemuksen perusteet" (6 credits) or the previous course "Urheilijan ravitsemuksen perusteet" (6 credits).
Additional Information
- The course corresponds to the previous course "Urheilijan ja liikkujan painonhallinta ja kontrolloitu laihdutus."
- The course is part of the basic studies in sports nutrition.
- Instructions for using UEF identifiers and student email will be provided after registration.
- Login instructions for the Moodle learning environment will be sent to the student's email after the registration period has ended, by the start date of the course at the latest.
Price
The price of a single course is 20 / credit. Prices are valid for the academic year.
