Program Overview


Automotive and Hybrid Technology - Associate of Applied Science

The Automotive and Hybrid Technology program at New Mexico State University Alamogordo is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the automotive industry. The program requires a total of 62 credits and includes both general education and program-specific courses.


General Education Requirements

Students must complete 12-14 credits of general education courses, selecting one course from four of the following six content areas:


  • Area I: Communications
    • COMM 1130G: Public Speaking
    • COMM 1115G: Introduction to Communication
  • Area II: Mathematics
    • MATH 1220G: College Algebra
    • MATH 1130G: Survey of Mathematics
  • Area III: Laboratory Science
  • Area IV: Social/Behavioral Sciences
  • Area V: Humanities
  • Area VI: Creative/Fine Arts Students must also select one course from any General Education area as an elective.

Total Credits Required for Degree

The total credits required for the degree is 62. A grade of C- or better is required in all courses. Developmental coursework will not count towards the degree requirements and/or elective credits, but may be needed in order to take the necessary English and Mathematics coursework.
