Introduction to TRIO Upward Bound Program

The TRIO Upward Bound Program is designed to provide educational services to enhance the futures of youth in the target school area. Alamogordo High School, located in an economically challenged region, is one of the schools served by this program.


Program Objectives

The primary objectives of the TRIO Upward Bound Program are to:


  • Improve participant Academic Performance, including Grade Point Average and Standardized Test scores
  • Improve participant Secondary School Retention and Graduation rates
  • Increase participant Postsecondary Enrollment
  • Increase participant Postsecondary Completion

Program Details

Alamogordo High School is situated in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and serves the surrounding rural communities of Otero County. The school district, Alamogordo Public Schools, is the fourteenth largest in New Mexico. The program aims to address the critical need for educational services in this area, where approximately 19.1% of the population lives below the poverty line, and only about 53.4% of economically disadvantaged students pursue post-secondary education.


Program Administration

The TRIO Upward Bound Program is 100% funded through a grant by the U.S. Department of Education under the Higher Education Act of 1965. The program is administered by New Mexico State University.
