Program Overview
New Mexico State University Animal and Range Sciences
The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at New Mexico State University offers a comprehensive program in Animal and Range Sciences. This program attracts students from all majors and provides experience in diverse facets of the equine industry through coursework and extracurricular activities.
Equine Science Program
The equine science program focuses on the scientific understanding of equine concepts and hands-on interaction with horses. Coursework in the major and minor emphasizes the science behind commonplace equine industry care and management practices. Laboratory sessions and extracurricular activities help students apply topics learned in the classroom to the real world.
Equine Minor in Animal Science
The equine minor in animal science is designed to develop and offer many opportunities for students to see the bigger picture and make sound decisions for the equine industry as future leaders.
Equine Courses Offered
The equine faculty are diverse and bring many strengths to classroom and laboratory instruction. The program continually evaluates its curriculum to ensure students receive the skills they need to be successful in the equine industry.

Equine Options
The program offers two options: Equine Science and Equine Industry.
Equine Science
The science option prepares students to enter professional school with an emphasis in equine. Many students strive to attend veterinary school or graduate school, and the science option requires coursework that will prepare students for that future.
Equine Industry
The industry option prepares students to enter the equine industry upon graduation. Advisors work closely with students to help them focus their interests and find meaningful internships in the equine industry to enhance and develop skills necessary for success in the industry.
