Electric Energy Systems - Graduate Certificate

The Electric Energy Systems Graduate Certificate program is designed to provide engineers with core knowledge in the area of electric energy systems. This program is particularly relevant in recent times, as the field of electric energy systems has started to develop a cross-disciplinary aspect due to developments and investments in the areas of renewables and smart electric grid technology.


Program Description

The trend of intensifying developments in electric energy systems is likely to continue over the years. As a result, engineers from other areas in electrical and computer engineering may feel the need to develop core knowledge in this area. This program aims to provide engineers with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in the field of electric energy systems.


Program Requirements

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Electric Energy Systems, students must complete four courses (12 credits) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The required courses are:


  • E E 542: Power Systems II (3 credits)
  • E E 543: Power Systems III (3 credits)

In addition to the required courses, students must also complete six credits of elective courses from the following list:


  • E E 534: Power System Relaying (3 credits)
  • E E 537: Power Electronics (3 credits)
  • E E 544: Distribution Systems (3 credits)

Total Credits

The total number of credits required for the Graduate Certificate in Electric Energy Systems is 12.
