Electrical Lineworker Program

The Electrical Lineworker program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of electrical power systems, equipment, safety practices, and first aid. The program consists of several courses that cover various aspects of electrical linework.

• ELWK 130: Introduction to Electrical Power Systems
  • This course provides an overview of electrical power systems, equipment, safety practices, first aid, and CPR.
  • Credits: 2
  • Repeatable up to 2 credits

  • Corequisite(s): OEET 110, OEET 131
• ELWK 131: Electrical Lineworker Lab I
  • This course covers climbing and work on utility poles using ropes and rigging, pole setting, and an introduction to transmission and distribution line construction.
  • Credits: 6
  • Repeatable up to 6 credits
  • Restricted to OEET majors and Community Colleges campuses only
  • Corequisite(s): OEET 110, OEET 130
• ELWK 140: Electrical Power Systems II
  • This course covers the theory of power generation and distribution with emphasis on three-phase systems, including transformers, voltage regulators, and surge arrestors.
  • Credits: 3
  • Repeatable up to 3 credits
  • Restricted to OEET majors and Community Colleges campuses only
  • Corequisite(s): OEET 141
• ELWK 141: Electrical Lineworker II
  • This course provides practice in the installation of electrical power lines, including transformers, voltage regulators, and surge arrestors.

  • Corequisite(s): OEET 140
• ELWK 221: Cooperative Experience I
  • This course is a supervised cooperative work program where students are employed in an approved occupation and supervised and rated by the employer and instructor.
  • Credits: 1-4
  • Repeatable up to 4 credits
  • Restricted to Community Colleges campuses only
  • Prerequisite(s): Consent of instructor

• Students must be accepted into the electrical lineworker program before enrolling in any of the courses.
• Restricted to OEET majors and Community Colleges campuses only.
• Corequisite(s) and prerequisite(s) apply to specific courses.

Grading and Evaluation

• ELWK 221: Cooperative Experience I is graded as S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) or Audit.
