Program Overview
Program Overview
The postgraduate studies in Applied Geophysics aim to familiarize participants with the application of geophysical methods in various branches of the economy. The program covers the scientific foundations of the most commonly used methods and provides examples of their application. Participants will learn about the basic interpretation of geophysical data and the possibilities and limitations of the taught geophysical methods.
Program Details
The program will provide knowledge on the use of geophysical methods for geological recognition, mining, deposit exploration, and environmental protection. It will also cover the application of geophysical methods in construction, archaeology, and other fields. The program consists of two semesters, with a total of 192 hours of instruction.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes the following subjects:
- Podstawy bada sejsmicznych (Seismic Research Basics)
- Sejsmologia i sejsmometria (Seismology and Seismometry)
- Zastosowania sejsmiki inynierskiej (Engineering Seismology Applications)
- Grawimetria (Gravimetry)
- Geofizyka otworowa i petrofizyka (Well Geophysics and Petrophysics)
- Geoelektryka inynierska (Engineering Geoelectrics)
- Mikrograwimetria (Microgravimetry)
- Magnetometria (Magnetometry)
- Metody geoelektryczne (Geoelectric Methods)
- Metoda georadarowa (Ground-Penetrating Radar Method)
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, candidates must have a higher education degree in Earth sciences, mining, or related fields, as well as in exact sciences. Employees of mines and geophysical and geological companies with a different profile of education may also be admitted.
Graduation Profile
Graduates of the program will have knowledge of geophysical methods and their applications in geological recognition, mining, deposit exploration, and environmental protection. They will be able to perform basic interpretation of geophysical data and verify the validity of the used geophysical methods for solving a given problem.
Duration and Schedule
The program lasts two semesters, from November 2024 to October 2025. Classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays, every two to three weeks.
Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the program is 6,000 PLN.
Additional Information
The program is organized by the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics, and Environmental Protection, Department of Geophysics, at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. The program provides a certificate of completion, issued by the AGH University of Science and Technology, in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Completing the program authorizes graduates to apply for permissions to perform, supervise, and manage geological work, including seismic and well geophysics, as well as permissions for a mining geophysicist in underground mines.
