Agro-biological Environment and Energy Source Engineering
Program Overview
Program Overview
The discipline of Agro-biological Environment and Energy Source Engineering is developed on the basis of the discipline of Agricultural Environment and Small Hydropower Engineering. It is one of the second-level disciplines under the first-level discipline of Agricultural Engineering.
Research Areas
The discipline relies on the faculty of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Hydraulic Structure Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. Combined with Biology, Environmental Science, Energy Studies, Architecture, Computer Control, and Mechatronics, as well as other disciplines, current researches mainly focus on:
- The mechanism and prevention of agricultural water and soil environmental pollution
- The couple effect of water and fertility of crops under protected agricultural cultivation
- The water-saving irrigation
- The resource utilization of agricultural wastes and the development of new energy resources in rural areas
Research Directions
The discipline mainly contains the following research directions:
- The protection of agricultural water and soil environment: analysis of the mechanism and prevention of agricultural water and soil environmental pollution, the migration and transformation of pollutants in soil, plant, and water, etc.
- The eco-environmental effects of inferior water irrigation: the technological measures of low-cost and high-efficiency purification of inferior irrigation water and treatment of polluted soil and water environment, and the ecological analysis of inferior water irrigation's influences on soil and water environment and biological agents.
- The control over protected agriculture and bio-environment: the pattern of water-saving irrigation and the coupling effect of water and fertilizer, and the mechanism of water-saving, high-yield and high-quality crops under protected agricultural cultivation.
- The exploitation and utilization of new energy resources in rural areas: the exploitation and utilization of biomass energy and new energy resources in rural areas, the harmless treatment and the resource utilization of agricultural wastes, material and energy basis for sustainable developments of rural and agricultural production, etc.
Faculty and Staff
The staff contains 9 professors, 13 associate professors, 14 lecturers, including 11 doctors and 23 masters.
Research Institutes and Laboratories
The discipline has the Research Institute of Agricultural Water and Soil Engineering, the Research Institute of Agro-biological Environment, the Key Laboratory for Water Resources Development and Utilization of the Ministry of Education, etc.
Projects and Achievements
The discipline undertook more than 40 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Key Technologies R&D Program of China, Agricultural Water-saving Projects in the National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), Provincial Key Scientific and Technological Projects, National Key Projects of Scientific and Technological Achievements and Commissioned Scientific and Technological Research Projects, with nearly 50 achievements, two of which were listed as Awards for National Scientific and Technological Achievements.
Publications and Awards
More than 60 papers have been published in core journals at home and abroad, 9 awards have been awarded at the national and provincial levels, and 5 monographs have been published. Several scientific research achievements have been appraised by national, provincial, and ministerial organizations.
Academic Status
The discipline enjoys a comparatively high academic status at home and abroad. Quite a lot of research results stand at the world and have been popularized and applied in over ten provinces and municipalities throughout China.
Degree Programs
In 2003, the discipline was approved to confer master's degree by the Ministry of Education and the enrollment started the same year. The graduates who major in this discipline are mainly engaged in the research and development of agro-biological environment and its engineering facilities as well as the exploitation and utilization of new energy resources in rural areas. Graduates of this discipline will have guaranteed career prospects.
