Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to attend the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program? The students who do not meet the language requirement for their faculties have to attend the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program. The students who have a required score in an international exam (TOEFL iBT & PTE Academic) recognised by their departments can be exempt from the Preparatory Program.
2. Can I take a leave of absence during the Preparatory Program? You can take a leave of absence for the whole academic year at the Preparatory Program.
3. Can I be exempt from the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program if I take the ITU SFL Proficiency Exam? SUNY students cannot be exempt from the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program by submitting their score in the ITU School of Foreign Languages (SFL) Proficiency Exam.
4. Do I have to take the ITU SFL Placement Exam? We recommend you take the Placement Exam. The result of the exam helps us place you into the appropriate level in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program.
5. Is attendance compulsory in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program? Yes, attendance is compulsory in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program.
6. What are the consequences of not attending classes in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program? The students who fail due to absenteeism cannot attend classes in the Preparatory Program.
7. What are the consequences of failing the in-year exams in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program? In order to be successful in the Preparatory Program, students must have a semester average of at least 50 percent.
8. Is Summer School compulsory in the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program? No, it is not.
9. How can I register for TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic exams? In order to register for TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic exams, you are required to open an account on the exam websites.
10. Can I take TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic exams anywhere in Turkey? The score reports of TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic exams taken in Turkey will be accepted only on condition that the test center is administered by a public university.
11. What should I do after I obtain the required score from TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic exam? After obtaining the required score, you need to get your score report approved by the DDP Coordination Office.
12. What should I do if I cannot obtain the required score from TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic in the first year of the Preparatory Program? You have the right to study in the Preparatory Program for two years.
13. I am in my second year at the Preparatory Program. What if I cannot get the required score from TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic exam at the end of this year? Maximum period of study at the Preparatory Program is 2 years, in accordance with the law.
14. How can I follow the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program announcements? You can follow the announcements on the ITU SFL website.
15. Where and when must the tuition fee for the Dual Diploma Language Preparatory Program be deposited? You can deposit the tuition fee in the relevant bank within the dates specified in the Academic Calendar.
