Introduction to the EELISA European University Summer School

The EELISA European University Summer School, titled "Platform Urbanism," will be held at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Ayazaa Campus from August 5-7, 2024. This summer school offers participants the opportunity to earn 4 AKTS credits.

Program Details

The summer school is open to master's and doctoral students from EELISA universities, as well as early-career researchers and professionals from around the world. The program will feature four courses, two guest lectures, two laboratory sessions, one field trip, one case study, one practical exercise, and one team activity.

Program Objectives

The summer school aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of platform urbanism and its applications in the digital age. The program will explore the following topics:

• What is platform urbanism?
• How do digital platforms analyze and visualize urban big data?
• How do digital platforms use artificial intelligence to read and intervene in urban spaces?
• How does the rise of platforms affect the socio-spatial practices and services of cities?
• What are the impacts of datafication, platformization, and algorithms on daily urban life?

Admission Criteria and Requirements

To apply for the summer school, participants must submit their CV and a motivation letter (maximum 500 words) along with the registration form. The deadline for applications is June 28, 2024. Accepted applicants will be notified via email on July 3, 2024.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the summer school are as follows:

• 300 euros for master's and doctoral students from EELISA universities
• 500 euros for early-career researchers
• 700 euros for professionals

Certificate and Credits

Participants who complete the summer school's three modules and pass the evaluations will receive a Certificate of Participation from the ITU Center for Excellence in Education. EELISA students will also be eligible for an EELISA Credential. The certificate is equivalent to 4 AKTS credits.

Language and Logistics

The working language of the summer school is English. The tuition fees do not include travel and accommodation costs. Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the event. EELISA participants may be eligible for travel and accommodation support from their local EELISA project coordinators.
