Program Overview


Introduction to the Afet Risk Finans Akademisi Program

The Afet Risk Finans Akademisi program, themed "Analizden Eyleme: Afet Riski Finansman ve Finansal Koruma" (From Analysis to Action: Disaster Risk Financing and Financial Protection), was organized by the World Bank in partnership with DASK and the Insurance Development Forum. This program aimed to emphasize the importance of disaster insurance and focus on various disaster risk financing topics.


Program Details

  • The program was held from April 7 to 11, 2025, in Istanbul, with academic partnerships from TÜ and Boaziçi University.
  • Participants from numerous countries, including Fas, Tunus, Msr, ÜrdĂźn, Arnavutluk, Krgz Cumhuriyeti, Kazakistan, Tacikistan, and Özbekistan, attended the program.
  • The World Bank's objective with this program was to reach decision-makers at the managerial level in the countries it actively interacts with.

  • Doç. Dr. Nihan Yldrm, a faculty member from the Department of Industrial Engineering, contributed to the program with a practical training session on "Payda YĂśnetimi ve Katlm: Afet Riski Finansmannda Payda Haritalama" (Stakeholder Management and Participation: Stakeholder Mapping in Disaster Risk Financing) on April 11, 2025.
  • Doç. Dr. Nihan Yldrm was awarded the Departmental Academic Performance Award in 2023 and 2024 for her academic achievements.

  • Doç. Dr. Ömer Ekmekciolu, a faculty member from the Disaster Management Institute, served as the closing speaker of the program.
  • He presented the key points and important messages from the sessions and content shared during the program to the participants.
  • Doç. Dr. Ömer Ekmekciolu received the 2024 TÜBA-GEBP Award for his work on analyzing flood disasters using artificial intelligence-supported decision-making mechanisms, adapting traditional and modern methods to combat flood hazards, and understanding the impact of climate change on extreme hydro-meteorological phenomena.
