Program Overview

The University of Limerick offers a Professional Diploma in Supply Chain Management, a one-year, part-time online program designed for applicants responsible for or engaged in supply chain activities in various industry sectors.


Brief Description

This program blends real-world application with theory, enabling participants to engage with frameworks, strategic management, mathematical and simulation modeling, and the latest technological trends. Developed and delivered by industry and academic experts, it equips graduates with the competency to increase global supply chain performance within their organization.


Program Content

  • The program is complete part-time over one year.
  • It is delivered online.
  • Modules are taught during spring and autumn semesters.
  • The program offers an option to receive an exemption from Year 1 of the Masters in Supply Chain Operations, allowing students to complete the full Master's degree in just one additional year.
  • It can also be used to complete 30 credits towards Master of Professional Practice (MPP) or MSc Engineering Practice.

Year 1 Modules

Spring Semester

  • Frameworks for Supply Chain Management (PT5001) introduces a wide range of frameworks to inform systematic thinking on the alignment, design, implementation, and operation of supply chains.
  • Strategic Business & Operations Management (AU5011) provides an overview of the strategy process and of operations management from concept to deployment.
  • Mathematical Modelling in Supply Chain (MF5001) outlines mathematical models applicable to supply chains as well as modeling and software capabilities to apply mathematical models to supply chains.

Summer Semester

  • Marketing Technology Products (AU5032) develops understanding of marketing concepts in business to enable students to produce a company marketing plan.
  • Simulation Modelling in Supply Chains (IE5002) provides students with knowledge on discrete event simulation modeling and its application to supply chains.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honor, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant or appropriate subject.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in the areas of supply chain function.
  • The university may shortlist and invite applicants to an interview.

Other Entry Considerations

The university encourages applicants who don't meet the standard entry requirements to apply, as long as they can show they have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the program.
