The Professional Doctorate (Engineering) - Qualifier Module is a 12-week micro-credential designed to support individuals preparing to apply for the Professional Doctorate in Engineering (DEng) at the University of Limerick. This module introduces key doctoral-level concepts, including research philosophy, knowledge creation, and the student's role in advancing professional practice.

Programme Content

During this module, students will:

• Develop confidence in designing research that addresses real-world professional challenges
• Build critical academic skills, including writing, reflection, and portfolio development, for doctoral-level study
• Explore how professional and academic knowledge intersect in professional practice and research
• Prepare a formal research proposal, supported by access to expert-led workshops and personalized feedback

Entry Requirements

To be successful on this course, applicants should:

• Hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:21) in a relevant discipline and have five years' experience
• Meet the recognized prior learning (RPL) criteria
• Include the Module Code PP8001 when applying
• Confirm that they meet the entry requirements and can participate in the course and its assessments
