Ideation and Representation - Module PD6012

Brief Description

Design thinking can transform healthcare by improving experiences, services, and outcomes for patients, professionals, and communities. This 6-week, Level 9 micro-credential gives you practical tools to tackle real-world healthcare challenges using human-centred design.


Programme Content

During this module, you will:


  • Build creative problem-solving skills by tackling real-world healthcare challenges through collaborative studio-based projects.
  • Generate and prototype innovative solutions using practical design methods, tools, and techniques from sketching to physical and digital modelling.
  • Develop your ability to think critically and empathise with users by exploring the principles of human-centred design and evaluating ideas in context.
  • Gain hands-on experience of multidisciplinary teamwork while creating impactful healthcare solutions that respond to real user needs.

Key Information

  • This micro-credential will be delivered over 6 weeks.
  • You will be assessed using 1-2 continuous skill-based assignments provided by your lecturer and tutor with no final exam.
  • Part-time considerations:
    • Designed for working professionals.
    • Evening or recorded lectures.
    • Additional prep and group work time.
    • Timetable provided after registration.

Entry Requirements

To help you to be successful on this course:


  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second class honours, grade 2 (2:2).
  • If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of 3 or more years of experience in a relevant field related to design or health (Recognised Prior Learning).
