Therapeutic Interventions in Respiratory Nursing

The Therapeutic Interventions in Respiratory Nursing module is designed to support patients with complex respiratory conditions, requiring specialist knowledge and confident decision-making.

Brief Description

This 12-week micro-credential builds on specialist or advanced-level nursing skills to lead therapeutic respiratory care across acute and community settings. It explores evidence-based interventions for conditions such as COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, and interstitial lung disease.

Programme Content

During this module, students will:

• Strengthen their understanding of the nurse's role in planning, monitoring, coordinating, and managing care of individuals experiencing respiratory health conditions
• Gain expertise in a range of therapeutic approaches for managing both acute and chronic respiratory care as well as medication management
• Learn to deliver and evaluate respiratory interventions such as oxygen therapy, nebuliser use, non-invasive ventilation, and pulmonary rehabilitation
• Develop leadership skills within multidisciplinary respiratory teams while building confidence in providing person-centred care that supports self-management and optimising wellbeing

Key Information

This micro-credential will be delivered using a blended approach over 12 weeks, with 6 on-campus sessions and 6 online sessions. Full attendance is required for all on-campus days of the module.

Part-time Considerations

The module is designed for working professionals, with a blended delivery of online and in-person lectures, additional preparation, and group work time. A timetable will be provided after registration.

Entry Requirements

To be successful on this course, applicants should:

• Hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours (2:2) in Nursing and Midwifery or show evidence of recognised prior learning (RPL)
• Be working as a registered nurse for at least a year
• Be on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
