Brief Description
The Master of Education in Educational Leadership (International) is a professional qualification in leadership designed for teachers in Ireland and abroad who are interested in leadership in international contexts. This two-year, fully online program supports students in deepening their understanding of educational leadership and enhancing their leadership practice.
Overview
During this program, students will:
- Examine the dynamics of leading learning and teaching by engaging with theories and practices of instructional leadership.
- Build advanced knowledge of educational leadership through study of leadership approaches, case studies, and practical tools for leading change.
- Examine the impact of national and international policy developments on the professional role of the teacher.
- Foster inclusive and supportive leadership and explore strategies that promote equity, well-being, and collaborative and flourishing school cultures.
Programme Content
- Complete part-time over two years
- Delivered online with evening or recorded lectures, ideal for working professionals
- Timetable developed each Autumn to suit global participants
- Modules taught during autumn, spring, and summer semesters
- Submit research project at the end of the final semester
Year 1
Autumn Semester
- Leadership of Learning and Teaching for Transformation (EN6241) examines the dynamics of learning, teaching, and assessment with an emphasis on building 'learning capacity' through instructional leadership practices.
- Approaches to Educational Leadership for the 21st Century (EN6231) develops knowledge and understanding of contemporary approaches in educational leadership.
Spring Semester
- Leading Schools: Culture and Globalisation (EN6222) explores the impact of globalization on the policy and practice of education and interrogates cultural aspects of educational environments.
- Leading Educational Change: Policy, People, Practice (EN6232) examines the impact of national and international policy developments on the professional role of the teacher.
Summer Semester
- Sustainable Leadership: Dynamics, Resources, Resilience (EN6063) explores the dynamics involved in organizational and individual sustainability.
- Building Leadership Capacity Through Coaching and Mentoring (EN6073) examines mentoring and coaching as key tools in fostering building leadership capacity.
Year 2
Autumn Semester
- Advanced Research Methods for Educational Leadership (EN6251) equips students with the knowledge and skills for research specific to educational leadership.
- Educational Leadership Dissertation 1 (EN6261) facilitates students to research and write their master's research project.
Spring Semester
- Educational Leadership Dissertation 2 (EN6262) supports students in completing the research and writing of their master's research project.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honor, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant or appropriate subject.
- At least 2 years of relevant educational experience, particularly in the areas of primary and post-primary education or other educational environments.
- The university may shortlist and invite applicants to an interview.

Fees
- EU: €5,500 per annum
- Non-EU: €13,200 per annum
- Year 2 fees are subject to change.
