Program Overview


Human Resource Management (International) - MSc

Brief Description

The University of Limerick's one-year full-time Master of Science in Human Resource Management (International) allows students to complete one semester in Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) in Spain. This programme is the Dual Degree option offered on UL's MSc in Human Resource Management. At the end of the studies, students will receive HRM Master's level degrees from both UL and UC3M.


Overview

During this programme, students will:


  • Tackle the multiple challenges faced by HR professionals in today's increasingly complex and globalised business environment.
  • Design and implement people management processes compatible with the creation of sustainable working environments.
  • Explore core theory underpinning effective people management, including managing conflict, creating environments for sustainable and decent work, talent management, and employment relations.
  • Learn to balance operational and strategic issues and manage competing demands from multiple stakeholders.
  • Examine key leadership concepts and skills required to become an ethical and effective leader in the workplace.

Programme Content

  • Complete full-time in one year
  • Delivered on campus
  • Modules taught during autumn and spring semesters
  • Submit dissertation at the end of the summer semester
  • Begin the autumn semester in Limerick, studying core modules from UL's MSc in Human Resource Management.
  • In the spring semester, continue studies at the Graduate Centre of Business at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), completing the second semester of UC3M's Master in HRM.
  • All classes are delivered in English

Year 1

Autumn Semester (in Limerick)

  • Contemporary HRM and Sustainable Work provides the knowledge to design and implement people management processes compatible with the creation of sustainable working environments.
  • The Psychology of Leading People and Organisations develops understanding of key leadership concepts and skills to become ethical and effective leaders in the workplace.
  • Researching Work and Employment equips students to conduct empirical and applied research for the dissertation component of the programme.
  • Professional Development 1 encourages greater employability and connectivity with industry by developing an appreciation of the needs, drivers, and opportunities in the employment market.

Spring Semester (in Madrid)

Summer Semester

  • Dissertation 1 provides direction and guidance for students in their dissertation research.
  • Dissertation 2 enables students to apply independent research skills to an issue of importance in human resource management.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline such as human resource management; work and organisational psychology; business management.
  • Applicants from other disciplines will also be considered if they have studied at least some of the following subjects in their undergraduate degrees – management, organisational behaviour, employment relations, industrial relations, employment law, individual psychology, social psychology, learning, conflict management, strategy.
  • The university will shortlist and invite applicants to an interview.

We encourage applicants to apply even if they don't meet the standard entry requirements, as long as they can show that they have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for the programme.
