Program Overview
Introduction to the Cherrington Global Scholars Program
The University of Denver supports the Cherrington Global Scholars (CGS) initiative, which financially supports the round-trip international airfare and student visa application fees. This is an exciting opportunity for students and a dramatic statement of the University of Denver's commitment to internationalizing undergraduate education.
CGS Benefits
Students who meet the eligibility requirements to be a Cherrington Global Scholar may only apply these benefits to DU Partner Programs. The benefits include:
- A stipend towards the cost of transportation to and from the study abroad host city
- Reimbursement for visa application fees, residence permits, or permits to study, and foreign airport entry or exit fees that are not included in the student's travel fare.
Reimbursement Eligibility
Reimbursement-eligible receipts must be submitted to the Office of International Education (OIE) by May 1 of the study year abroad.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be a Cherrington Global Scholar, students must:
- Be juniors or seniors at DU during the period of study abroad (have completed at least 90 credits before going abroad)
- Have a minimum DU GPA of 3.0
- A student's cumulative grade point average relative to the CGS eligibility will be evaluated at the end of winter quarter for fall and academic year programs; at the end of summer quarter for winter quarter and spring semester programs; or at the end of fall quarter for spring quarter programs.
- Be in good academic and student conduct standing at DU
- Good student conduct standing includes satisfying all pending outcomes imposed by the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities.
- Have completed at least two-quarters of full-time enrollment at DU before the beginning of the period of study abroad
- Have not participated in a prior study abroad program as a Cherrington Global Scholar
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of departure for the period of study abroad
- Book airfare tickets via the OIE Travel Partner and follow all booking instructions.
CGS Eligibility Review
The OIE checks for CGS eligibility two quarters before the student goes abroad. Students will receive an email confirming whether they are eligible for CGS at that point. However, students may still be eligible for CGS benefits if their GPA goes up, if they earn more credits after receiving the email, or if their student conduct records clear. It is the student's responsibility to notify the OIE before the program starts if they think their CGS eligibility has changed. The OIE will not check eligibility again unless the student reaches out.
