Program Overview
Introduction to the Global Masters in Geography Program
The Global Masters in Geography program is an articulated agreement between the University of Denver's (DU) Department of Geography and Environment, the Lund University (LU) Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, and the DU Office of Internationalization. This program allows students to complete their undergraduate degree at DU and then pursue a master's degree at the partner institution.
Program Structure
The Global Masters model consists of three years of undergraduate study at DU, followed by one year of study abroad at the partner institution, which constitutes the fourth year of study at DU. Upon completion of the study abroad year, students will graduate from the University of Denver with a bachelor's degree. The fifth and final year of study will take place at the partner institution, where students will be full-time students and, upon completion, will be awarded a master's degree by the partner institution.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Global Masters program, students must:
- Be majoring in the Global Masters Program's subject area at the University of Denver
- Apply and be approved through the DU department or unit
- Meet all of the Office of International Education's admissions requirements and deadlines
- Have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA at the time of application for the Global Masters program, which must be maintained throughout the degree program
- Have a minimum 3.5 GPA in the major, as recommended by the Office of Internationalization, although the DU department or unit, in collaboration with the partner university, may establish a higher GPA requirement
Admissions Process
The general admissions criteria and process for the Global Masters Scholars at the University of Denver include:
- Meeting the department's eligibility requirements
- Meeting DU's study abroad and exchange requirements
- Meeting any additional requirements determined for a specific Global Masters program
- Applying and being approved through the DU department or unit

Study Abroad and Degree Completion
During the one-year study abroad, students will follow all Office of International Education policies and may apply for Cherrington Global Scholars benefits if applicable. Upon completion of the study abroad year, students will graduate from the University of Denver and will no longer be DU students. The final year of study will be completed at the partner institution, leading to the award of a master's degree.
