Course Descriptions

  • LGST 3030: The Supreme Court & Your Life This course evaluates the critical ways in which the United States Supreme Court interacts with and affects an individual's life, career, education, freedom, and future. Over ten weeks, students analyze how each major section of the Constitution makes its way to the Court, is interpreted by the Justices, and the subsequent repercussions of the opinion.
  • LGST 3400: White Collar & Corporate Crime This course offers an essential overview of corporate and "white collar" crime. Through real-world case studies, legal and ethical analysis, criminological research, and cultural reference materials, students gain insight into the types, causes, and effects of crimes committed by businesses, corporate officers, and public officials.
  • LGST 3440: The Supreme Court & Your Life: Constitutional Law, Ethics & Policy for the 21st Century This course evaluates the critical ways in which the United States Supreme Court interacts with and affects an individual's life, career, education, freedom, and future.   • LGST 3450: Impact of Driverless Mobility: Business, Legal & Ethical Implications This course considers the broad implications of driverless vehicles, including legal, ethical, and business considerations. Students explore the many legal, ethical, and business considerations of this disruptive technology.
  • LGST 4198: E-Commerce Law and Ethics This course provides perspective on the developments of the recent past in technology and business. Students examine the technological, economic, and political forces that have generated the current state of e-commerce and explore the basic features of e-commerce as it exists today.
  • LGST 4550: Business Law for Accountants This course provides students with a detailed review of the legal considerations in forming, operating, and dissolving common forms of business entities. The rights, duties, and liabilities of managers, owners, and accountants are extensively examined.
  • LGST 4700: International Law This course offers an introduction to public international law and private international law. Students explore key international issues of business law and public policy, including alternative dispute resolution, privatization, intellectual property, and international sales.
  • LGST 4701: Topics in Ethics & Legal Study This course examines the complexities, paradoxes, and dangers of leadership. Students gain a deep understanding of values-based leadership in today's world through in-depth analysis of the key dimensions of the Core Leadership Model.
  • LGST 4730: Values Based Leadership in Practice This course examines the complexities, paradoxes, and dangers of leadership. Students gain a deep understanding of values-based leadership in today's world through in-depth analysis of the key dimensions of the Core Leadership Model.
  • LGST 4740: Science & Mgmt. of Org. Ethics This course examines knowledge regarding ethical decision making and behavior in organizational contexts. Students explore the implications of such knowledge for effectively creating and managing ethical organizations.
  • LGST 4760: CEOs and Corporate Governance This course explores corporate governance from strategic, financial, and legal perspectives. Students examine CEO/board dynamics, leadership development, and executive succession policies.
  • LGST 4780: Leadership, Teams & Values This course provides challenging intellectual discussion and physical engagement around the fundamental ethical dilemma of competition and/or cooperation. Students learn about values, teams, and self through traditional classrooms and an untraditional learning environment.
  • LGST 4790: Entrepreneur & Family Business-Organization, Governance Ethics & Leadership This course covers current legal and ethical issues involving the creation of value, strengthening and growing family businesses through best practices in business governance, coupled with ethical conduct and values-based leadership.

Course Requirements and Prerequisites

  • LGST 3400: Prerequisite - Undergraduates must complete LGST 2000; Graduate students are strongly advised to have successfully completed a course in business law.
  • LGST 3450: Prerequisite - LGST 2000.
  • LGST 4550: Prerequisite - ACTG 4620 or BUS 4620 or LGST 2000 (concurrent registration OK).
  • LGST 4740: Prerequisite - BUS 4100; Non-business students may take the course with permission.
  • LGST 4780: Prerequisite - BUS 4100.
  • LGST 4790: Prerequisite - BUS 4100; Cross-listed with LGST 3790.
