French Intermediate Level A: LANG 2003
Improve your French language skills
French Intermediate Level A is a course designed to improve conversational skills, with a focus on achieving conversational skills that closely match the Federal government's requirements for their Level A Oral Proficiency Test. This course reinforces and builds upon the content and skills developed in the French Beginners Level 3 class, with a primary focus on oral language skills.
In this course, students will learn to:
- Give and ask directions
- Use proper verbs to describe chores at work/home, etc.
- Recount past/present/future events
- Use work lingo in day-to-day applications
- Describe people/objects/places
The course will utilize conversation-based exercises to strengthen comprehension and self-expression, applying learned grammatical concepts in various contexts.
According to the Federal government, "Level A is the minimum level of second language ability in oral proficiency for positions that require simple and repetitive use of the second language in routine work situations". A person speaking at this level can:
- Ask and answer simple questions
- Give simple instructions
- Give uncomplicated directions relating to routine work situations
Course Details
- No materials are required.
- The course will be held on Mondays from January 26 to April 20 (10 weeks, with no class on February 16, March 2, and April 6).
- The class will take place from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. at UNB Fredericton, Tilley Hall, 9 MacAulay Lane, room 125.
- The tuition fee is $225 (+ HST) for the winter term.
About the Instructor
èmilie Maltais is a native French speaker from Saguenay, QC. She graduated from UQAC university in 2020 with a degree in French education and worked as a French teacher in Quebec for two years before moving to New Brunswick. Currently, she teaches French at ècole Sainte-Anne and enjoys teaching French to both francophone and French as a second language students.
