Master in Quantitative Investment Management
The Master in Quantitative Investment Management (MQIM) program is a one-of-a-kind, one-year graduate program that prepares students for a specialized career in quantitative investment management. This program equips graduates with the fundamentals of finance knowledge, analytic and programming skills, and professional development competencies demanded by the finance industry.
Program Overview
Quantitative Investment Management integrates tools from finance, economics, applied mathematics, statistics, and computer programming to address problems in derivative securities valuation, dynamic investment strategies, and risk management. These skills are sought by investment and commercial banks, trading companies, hedge funds, insurance companies, corporate risk managers, and regulatory agencies.
Industry Connections
MQIM graduates are currently working for asset management firms such as Vestcor Inc. and AIMCo, as well as quant shops, investment and commercial banks. Quantitative investment skills are in high demand, with firms like the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan recruiting heavily from quantitative masters programs.
Application Requirements
To be eligible for the MQIM program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized university with a B average or minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 out of 4.3.
- Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in mathematics, statistics, computer science, science, engineering, business, or economics.
- Minimum GMAT of 555 or equivalent GRE result and a strong quantitative background.
- Computer programming skills are strongly recommended.
- Successful completion of a university-level economics course.
- If English is not the first language, an official TOEFL (minimum score 94/120) or IELTS result (minimum score of 7/9).
Required Documents
The following documents are required for the application:
- Official Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work (grading scales must be included).
- International applicants are required to submit a WES ICAP evaluation that includes all prior post-secondary credentials obtained.
- Official language test TOEFL or IELTS result.
- Statement of Purpose
- Resume
- Official GMAT or corresponding GRE result.
- Three reference letters, at least one of which is from a professor.
- A completed application
Scholarships
Entrance awards, ranging from $3,000 to $10,000, will be granted to MQIM students based on academic merit. All applicants will be automatically considered for an entrance award when their application is reviewed for admission.
