Course Overview

The Foundations of Memory and Cognition course is an introduction to the fundamental principles of human memory, cognition, and information processing in the laboratory and everyday world. Topics include basic cognitive processes, the representation and organization of knowledge, reasoning, problem-solving, etc.

Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to help students:


  • Learn information relevant to everyday functioning (e.g., how to remember things, problem-solving, attention)
  • Better understand the role of participants in psychology studies through interactive assignments and lab simulations
  • Gain an in-class experience from the comfort of their own home or workspace

Course Structure

  • Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course
  • All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date

Assignments and Examinations

  • 15 x mini experiment simulation activities (1% x 15 = 15% total)
    • These activities are designed to engage students with the course material
  • 1 x mid-course exam (invigilated, 35%)
  • 1 x final exam (invigilated, 50%)
  • The exam(s) for this course will be invigilated on an approved date using Respondus e-proctoring software (LockDown Browser and Monitor), which is a free tool provided with this course; a webcam is required

Fees and Payments

  • There is a $150 non-refundable
    on-transferable online fee per course in addition to applicable tuition and fees
  • This fee is non-refundable once the add/drop date has passed within the term the course is registered in
  • The fee will be automatically added and included in term tuition fees; no further action is required when registering
