Program Overview
The Watercolours on the Go program is designed to teach participants how to create an illustrated travel journal. This program focuses on quick and immediate watercolour techniques, reflecting the realities of travelling. Using an ultra-compact paint set and small brushes, participants can produce drawings that evoke a mood, a location, or a day.
Program Details
The program will be held over four weeks, with classes taking place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marshall d'Avray Hall, 10 MacKay Drive, room 123, UNB Fredericton. The program dates are from March 21 to April 18, with no class on April 4.
Materials
Participants are required to bring the following materials:
- Small object for the first class (can fit in your hand)
- Unlined Paper Blanks Journal ($20 at Endeavours)
- Black ink technical (micron) pen with waterproof ink (fine line - 0.1 or 0.2 is a good size)
- Small water container
- Simply Simmons Round Watercolour brush size 5 to 6 ($4.99 at Endeavours)
- Daler-Rowney Aquiline Travel Set of 12 colours (under $20 from Endeavours)
- Optional:
- Folding stool

Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the program is $149 (+ HST).
About the Instructor
Katie FitzRandolph is the instructor for the Watercolours on the Go program. She has a background in pottery and oil painting, and has studied watercolour in short courses in France and Mexico. Katie is a member of the Toronto art group Central Connection and has shown her work in several locations in Toronto. Her work is in the permanent collection of the University of New Brunswick and in private collections across Canada and the US.
Program Benefits
The program allows participants to develop their watercolour skills and create an illustrated travel journal. The program's focus on quick and immediate techniques reflects the realities of travelling, and participants will have the opportunity to paint in various locations around Fredericton (weather permitting) and in-class over the duration of the course. All painting skill levels are welcome.
