Introduction to the Double Major in Drama Program
The Double Major in Drama program offers a unique and comprehensive approach to training in theatre disciplines. This program is ideal for those interested in teaching drama or planning to continue their involvement at an amateur or professional level.
Program Structure
The program provides a well-rounded education in all theatre disciplines, including acting, directing, set design and construction, and lighting and sound design and techniques. Students in their second and third-year classes learn the fundamentals of acting while also receiving training in other areas.
Specialized Training
Students most interested in the technical theatre disciplines can receive specialized training as:
- Stage managers
- Learning the intricacies of managing a production
- Technicians
- Gaining hands-on experience with lighting, sound, and set design
Performance Opportunities
The performance company, Theatre UNB, stages multiple productions annually, providing students with guaranteed performance opportunities. Theatre UNB is active year-round, with opportunities for students to get involved in summer theatre productions staged in partnership with:
- Bard in the Barracks, a Fredericton theatre company that stages outdoor productions of the works of William Shakespeare
- NotaBle Acts Theatre Company, which produces a festival of new plays by New Brunswick writers every July
