Program Overview
Wabanaki Bachelor of Education
A four-year program in elementary education specializing in Wabanaki languages, cultures and worldviews
This degree specializes in Wabanaki languages, culture and worldviews through involvement of Indigenous Elders and Knowledge keepers. Students complete the entire degree from home with expectations of land-based gatherings. Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqey language certificate embedded within the degree; includes four language courses and half of the practicum involved with teaching language in a community school.
Graduates are qualified for New Brunswick teacher certification level IV with the possibility of an additional year for a certification level V upgrade.
Cohort model
Thirty students are enrolled in the program which is completed in four years, including the practicum.
Language certificates
Mi'kmaq or Wolastoqey language certificates are available within the degree, including:
- Four language courses (Mi'kmaq or Wolastoqey)
- One language methods course
- Half of the practicum teaching language in a community school
