Summer Research

The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience offers summer research programs for undergraduate and high school students. The goal of these programs is to provide research experiences that help students evaluate their interest and potential in a biomedical research career and to provide practical training in the use of current research techniques.

Research Experience

The research experience provided for students includes:

Travis B. Lewis Scholarship

The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience hosts an open competition for the Travis B. Lewis Scholarship Award for outstanding high school students desiring a career in science and medicine. This award is made possible through a generous private donation and provides a summer stipend, an award plaque, and the opportunity to work for up to 10 weeks in a premiere research program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Program Details

• Application: Undergraduate applications are submitted online on the Summer Undergraduate Research Program website. High school applications are submitted online on the Summer Highschool Advanced Research Program website.
• Important Dates: The application for Summer 2026 will be open from November 1, 2025, to February 1, 2026. The Summer 2026 session will start on June 1, 2026, and end on August 7, 2026.
• Stipends:
  • College Undergraduates: $3,000
  • Travis B. Lewis High School Scholars: $1,500
  • Travis B. Lewis Teacher Scholars: $3,000 (four-week commitment)
