IGPBS - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology PhD and MD/PhD

The IGPBS - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology doctoral program is designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the biochemistry and molecular biology of living organisms, including the research and training experience necessary for the development of independent investigators.

  • BMB 915: Proteins & Nucleic Acid (3 credit hours)
  • BMB 970: Seminar (every semester, 1 credit hour)
  • BMB 980: Critical Thinking in Advanced Metabolism (1 credit hour)
  • BMB 975: Critical Thinking and Applications in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (3 credit hours)
  • BMB 999: Doctoral Dissertation (1-15 credit hours)

MD/PhD Curriculum

Upon successful completion of Phase 1 of the College of Medicine curriculum, the requirement for completing IPBS 801, IPBS 802, IPBS 803, BMB 815, and BMB 915 will be waived. MD/PhD students in IGPBS - Biochemistry & Molecular Biology must complete the following coursework:


  • GRAD 800: Responsible Conduct in Research Training (0 credit hours)
  • BMB 896: Research Other Than Thesis (1-8 credit hours)
  • BMB 970: Seminar (1 credit hour)
