Residencies & Fellowships Overview

The College of Medicine offers dozens of graduate medical education programs, including nearly 20 in internal medicine, allowing residents and fellows to pursue a variety of specialties.

Graduate Medical Education Programs

The programs include:

• House Officer Resources: Information for residents and fellows, including salaries, benefits, and nearby housing.
• House Officer Wellness: Wellness resources for residents and fellows, including an assistance program and a private wellness lounge.
• Research: Opportunities for house officers to participate in research in areas such as patient safety, quality improvement, healthcare disparities, and education research.

Pediatric Fellowship

Pediatric Fellowship Overview

The University of Nebraska Medical Center offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Program, providing comprehensive training in both outpatient and inpatient pediatric dermatology.

Fellowship Goals

The goals of the fellowship program include:

• Clinical Expertise: Develop expert-level skills in general pediatric dermatology and complex medical dermatologic conditions in children.
• Procedural Proficiency: Gain experience in outpatient procedures, excisions of benign and malignant lesions with reconstruction, and laser-based treatments.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in coordinated care through multidisciplinary clinics, fostering collaboration across specialties for complex patient cases.
• Professional Communication: Strengthen communication skills with pediatric patients, families, clinic staff, and other medical specialties.
• Graduated Autonomy: Promote progressive independence in clinical decision-making, always supported by direct supervision.

How to Apply

The fellowship program participates in the San Francisco Match program, and interested applicants must register. The application requirements include:

Eligibility

Applicants must have completed their required clinical education in an ACGME-accredited residency program, an AOA-approved residency program, or a program with ACGME International Advanced Specialty Accreditation.

Locations

The fellowship program is based primarily at Children's Nebraska, with opportunities to work in outpatient, procedural, and operating room encounters, as well as in specialty clinics and inpatient settings.

Block Schedule

The block schedule is divided into thirteen 4-week blocks, including:

• Blocks one through seven: Children's Nebraska clinic with 95% of time on outpatient work and 5% on research
• Block eight: Children's Nebraska Specialty Clinic with 95% of time on outpatient work and 5% research
• Block nine: Research, Children's Nebraska, with 80% outpatient work and 20% research
• Block 10: Elective at Nebraska Medicine or Children's Nebraska, with 100% of time on outpatient work
• Blocks 11 and 12: Inpatient/lasers at Nebraska Medicine, with 80% of time on outpatient work
• Block 13: Vacation/CME
