The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine offers various fellowships, including the Cardiac Arrhythmia Fellowship.


Cardiac Arrhythmia Fellowship

The Cardiac Arrhythmia Research Fellowship focuses on clinical research projects in the Cardiac Electrophysiology Division.


Overview from the Program Director

The Cardiac Arrhythmia Fellowship is a one-year, non-ACGME accredited program that provides opportunities to seek mentored, clinically focused, research experience in the Cardiac Electrophysiology Division at The University of Kansas Medical Center. The Arrhythmia Fellow has a busy, structured experience in both clinical EP and EP research. The fellow is expected to be involved in creating and spearheading several original research projects with close mentorship. In addition, the trainees will also be involved in supporting ongoing clinical trials, investigator-initiated trials, and multi-center studies. The fellow will also be expected to present their research at local and national conferences.


Program Details

  • The fellow will continue to maintain clinical contact, gathering crucial patient experiences within the ambulatory setting in the Cardiac Electrophysiology outpatient clinic.
  • Clinic provides important translational experience that will coincide with ongoing research which may include screening patients and identifying new areas of research investigation for future projects.
  • The fellow will have opportunities to attend CV fellow conferences, collaborate with the CV fellows' research activities while interacting and learning from them.
  • The Arrhythmia fellow is also encouraged to attend monthly journal clubs as well as monthly morbidity and mortality conferences to enhance their learning experience.

Research and Clinical Experience

  • The KU Hospital is an 850-bed academic tertiary care referral center for the Kansas City metropolitan area, western Missouri, and eastern Kansas.
  • It includes a 200-bed, state of the art, Center for Advanced Heart Care that opened in 2006.
  • KU Hospital and clinics feature a robust electronic medical record system from Epic Systems Corporation.
  • KU hospital is a high volume clinical Electrophysiology lab with a large referral base.
