Program Overview
Introduction to the Interprofessional Age-Friendly Scholars Program
The Interprofessional Age-Friendly Scholars Program is currently available to students enrolled at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and the University of Kansas (KU). This program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate health professions students to engage in a longitudinal clinical rotation and interprofessional learning experiences.
Program Details
- The program provides a $5000 stipend to participating students to offset expenses related to their clinical rotation.
- Students will participate in a longitudinal clinical rotation in a site serving older adults in a rural or underserved community in Kansas.
- Sites serving older adults in underserved communities located in the greater Kansas City area in Missouri will also be considered.
- The clinical rotation will be accompanied by virtual interprofessional case-based learning and didactic content on the Age-Friendly Health Systems Framework (4Ms).
- The program is designed to take place during the semester of the clinical rotation, which can occur in the fall, spring, or summer.
Program Requirements and Expectations
- Participating students are encouraged to commit to pursuing post-graduation employment in sites serving older adults in rural and/or underserved communities.
- The program aims to support students in gaining valuable clinical experience and knowledge in age-friendly health systems, with a focus on serving older adults in underserved areas.
Eligibility
- The program is currently available to KUMC and KU students only.
- Eligible students must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate health professions programs at the University of Kansas Medical Center or the University of Kansas.
