Residents as Teachers
The Residents as Teachers program is an integral part of the internal medicine residency program. It recognizes that teaching others is vital to medical education and self-improvement. The program includes:
- Residents as Teachers Tuesday School: A rotating curriculum that provides interactive workshops for developing teaching skills.
- Teaching on Clinical Rotations: Informal small group discussions on high-yield topics for residents and medical students.
- University-sponsored GME Workshop "Residents as Teachers": A yearly workshop that allows PGY-2 residents from multiple specialties to come together and discuss the transition from an intern to a supervising resident role.
- JayDoc Free Clinic: Many senior residents choose to volunteer as preceptors at the medical school's JayDoc Free Clinic, a student-run non-emergency urgent care clinic.
- GME Residents as Teachers Scholars Program: A program that focuses on trainees with a passion for teaching and those interested in pursuing an academic career following training.
