Program Overview
The Obstetrics and Gynecology program, denoted as OBGN 976, is a comprehensive educational experience designed to immerse students in the breadth of practice of specialists in general obstetrics and gynecology. This program is structured to provide a supervised experience that encompasses various aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, including gynecologic surgery and oncology, as well as labor and delivery unit management at Wesley Medical Center.
Program Structure
- The program duration is 2-4 weeks, with a significant portion dedicated to hands-on experience.
- Three of the four weeks are spent in the labor and delivery units at Wesley Medical Center.
- One week is allocated to a private practice clinic under the supervision of the program director, chairman, or additional faculty members as determined by the department.
- Scheduled conferences are an integral part of the program, including:
- Weekly case conferences.
- Didactic lectures on Wednesday mornings.
Evaluation and Assessment
The student's performance and attainment of necessary skills for matriculation into the intern year of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency are evaluated through faculty judgment. This assessment focuses on the student's general information and the degree of attainment of skills necessary for progression in the field.
